This is the first step in a veteran's flight training application journey.
Veterans Affairs will only approve flight training at Part 141 FAA approved flight schools. Find your school at http://inquiry.vba.va.gov/weamspub/buildSearchInstitutionCriteria.do. In the "Search Filters", choose "Flight" in the "Program Type" drop-down menu then choose your state.
Submit a request for veteran education benefits at https://www.ebenefits.va.gov/ebenefits/vonapp. After completing your request, you will receive a letter, could take up to 30 days, determining your approved level of funding.
Information entered into MedXPress is available to your FAA-designated Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) for review at the time of your medical examination. Submit the request at https://medxpress.faa.gov/medxpress/.
To start flight training, the student must have a current medical examination. Find an approved AME at https://designee.faa.gov/SelectTypeOfSearch/SelectTypeOfSearch. Select "AME" from the "Designee Type" drop-down menu and choose your search method.
IACRA issues the Student Pilot Certificate your flight school and your flight instructor will use it to update your flight certification status with the FAA. Apply at https://iacra.faa.gov/IACRA/default.aspx.
This is the last step in a veteran's flight training application journey. Enroll in the FAA approved Part 141 flight school as identified in the VONAPP application and provide the flight school a copy of a current medical examination. The flight school will coordinate with Veterans Affairs to secure flight training education benefits.
